Local Atlanta Brewery a Superb Example of Creative Internet Marketing

By Carl Martens | April 3, 2008

Maybe this isn’t the best post to follow Kathryn Akin’s generous applause because this could be considered off topic, but whatever…this is my blog!

I must share with ya’ll my favorite blog on the internet. It has nothing to do with real estate, but everything to do with marketing. The blog is Monday Night Brewery and they deserve some link love.

There are many reasons I like this blog…I really envy Jeff, Joel, and Jonathan…

Most importantly (and staying line with this blog’s intent)…these guy’s simply get “it”. What is “it”? It is internet marketing and these guys are pros.

What I like most about these guys is that they have stuck to the very basic principles of internet marketing. The blog is nicely designed using a simple theme from Wordpress, nothing too extravagant, but they have loaded the blog with creativity from the overall branding to the content.

Anyone marketing any product or service could learn a great deal from these guys…Realtors included. In addition to their optimized blog (my first acquaintance with their blog was through a feed Google Reader picked up on) they also publish an email newsletter that is equally as entertaining and compelling as their website.

Read the pages from MNB’s menu bar at the top and read some posts…would love to hear your feedback on what you like about these guys…did you pick up on any clever marketing that you could apply into your real estate business? Come on guys…so far the most comments/questions a post has received is two…that’s pathetic and it is having an affect on my ego!

Perhaps we all just need to be ourselves and have fun (read this post) every once in awhile. In my opinion a blog is the best way to do this and EVERY agent should have one in addition to their main web site…people like to do business with people they like…start blogging, build a social network, make friends, and eventually leads (and closings) will result.

The appearance of the site does not bowl you over which is good because I got right into reading the text…it was light hearted and clever. I actually found myself clicking on live spots and going all over the site. I think the Bryan Adams thing is pretty funny and engaging…I felt like writing a comment about that alone. The links to You Tube were cool….these guys are clever and I think I’ll check their site out again. Makes me think about getting back into beer brewing myself!

Hey pops…thanks for providing some feedback. You are absolutely right…their site really encourages multiple clicks which is great…the deeper you can get someone into your site the more likely they are to come back.

I agree you ought to get back into brewing anything to keep you warm back in the Chi! I’ll be home soon and it’d be nice to induldge in some homemade pizza and a freshly brewed cold one!

Not to break up what is obviously a touching father/son conversation, but I feel compelled to comment.

In a word Carl, “thanks.” The interesting thing I’ve learned throughout this marketing-a-soon-to-be-microbrewery thing is that our brand is surprisingly easy to exude. Why? It’s a combination of Joel, Jeff and myself. I’ve been in marketing my entire (short) life, but this has been by far the easiest brand for me to communicate.

I think staying true to your personality is probably especially important in real estate, when your “brand” is really synonymous with your “person.”

Thanks for introducing me to MNB! Lynne and I are trying to get a blog together and we’re looking for a good reference point. These three guys are great…very funny. After reading I wanted to go grab one of their beers…with them! They really pull you in. I enjoyed their site so much I had to pass it on to several of my friends. Who, I’m sure, will pass it on to several of their friends. Man these guys are good!
So thanks again for showing us what a great blog should be like. Plus, what better way to start off a Friday than reading about good beer!

I hate to hear about a bruised ego…so I will add in my 2 cents.

I think these guys did a great job using natural language. Let’s not forget just how much those search engines love it..but the general public does too. They chose a niche subject to focus their blog on. That’s pretty recognizable for the search engines also!

I actually forwarded the link of the blog to my dad who loves beer and who also has a nice sense of humor as well. Why did I forward it? Because I could easily connect to these random beer brewing dudes. That’s the response that your clients need to get from you as their Realtor.

Also…gotta love the fact that they used pictures and the YouTube links. Keeps them on the site!

Thanks for sharing the link Carl!
