Google Maps Street View Feature
By Carl Martens | March 26, 2008
George Orwell’s book, 1984 (one of my favorite books!) first introduced us to Big Brother…aka scary Government. We have already been witness to actions by our government in recent years that make Big Brother seem more real than fictional. Now enter the conglomerate Google and we are left asking ourselves, should we fear our Government or fear Google? Technology is a wonderful thing, but it can also be quite scary as depicted in the book 1984 and more recently the motion picture V for Vendetta.
Big Brother could be coming to your city…that is, with Google Maps’ new street view option currently in a beta mode in Salt Lake City, Utah (and other select cities).
To begin:
1. Go to http://maps.google.com
2. Type in the following: 1930 S. State Street 84115 (street address and zip code) and click “Search Maps”
3. Google Maps will pinpoint that address and a window containing the address, picture, and links will appear. Click on the link “Street View” which is located below the picture.
4. What you are now looking at is the street view from O.C. Tanner’s (sorry…not giving this recognition company the benefit of an inbound link!) corporate headquarters.
Pretty cool or pretty scary? Would love to hear your thoughts? Could have some great implications for Realtors…
