REtechSouth…Well Worth a Benjamin
By Carl Martens | March 31, 2008
REtechSouth was a huge success and Brad Nix and Matt Fagioli deserve much applause for pulling the event together in such a hurry. The event featured many “big names” in real estate. I even had the opportunity to speak personally with Dustin Luther (best known for Rain City Guide) and Pat Kitano.
I had originally planned to write this post last Thursday or Friday, however there was such a wealth of information received at REtechSouth that I wanted to give myself time to think about how best to record it here…I’m still overwhelmed by all the information!
I could go on and on, but I don’t want to loose your attention, so let me now discuss what I learned…
To start things off, register for REtechSouth 2009.
If you aren’t already blogging, you ought to. Many of the number one spots for real estate keyword searches are currently owned by blogs. As blogs become more and more prevalent sites without blogs will loose ranking. It is inevitable. If you want to be part of the Web 2.0 era a blog is a must! (I recommend Wordpress as your platform and hosting it with a web host…cost is $8.95 per month)
Social Networks should be taken more seriously. The average age of people using MySpace is 35. Join networks such as ActiveRain, LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace, etc. Social networks are large in numbers and therefore have a lot of “juice”…Google Juice that is. Want a quick and inexpensive way to make it to the top of search engines…this is how. (The RKiHomes Team just listed a house on Saturday via a lead from MySpace)
Search Engine Optimization, the easy way. Become the authority in your niche so that others will want to link and reference you. Use headlines that are keyword rich and have a first paragraph that explains what the article/post is about. Update your blog or site frequently so that it is frequently crawled by search engine spiders.
SEO Tools - Top Things to Do:
- Wordtracker.com - discover keywords
- Submit articles to Carnival of Real Estate
- Use Title Tags in posts
- Off page SEO - have at least 305 high quality back links (with a Page Rank of 3 or higher)
- Get an .edu link from your alma mater
Become Hollywood…start using video. Use video for emails, listings, agent profiles, tutorials, etc. Just use video. Video usage on a site will become a factor for PR (page rank), although it is unknown how video will calculate into search engine algorithms, what we do know is that sites with video will rank higher than those without. Recommended camera for everyday capturing: The Flip.
